15 Seemingly Terrible Horror Castings That Totally Paid Off

6. Him - Marlon Wayans

For many, Marlon Wayans' role as a crazed and mysterious American Football star was one hell of a strange casting decision, but here's the thing: Marlon Wayans is in a similar boat to Adam Sandler. He's actually a formidable dramatic actor when he's given the right material. He's downright excellent in Requiem for a Dream and more recently, he also impressed in the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect. It is a crying shame that, much like Adam Sandler, he mostly makes bad movies.

Ironically enough, Him is one of those duds and it was ultimately a disappointing case of stylish visuals being wasted on a stunted script, but Wayans is really bloody good in it despite the poor material. He takes the manic energy he utilizes in his comedy roles and plays it in a different key, creating something palpably sinister and unnerving.

Without a shadow of a doubt, this is one of the best performances in a bad recent movie, and hopefully we'll see more work in this ilk from Wayans in the near-future.
