20 Awesome Horror Movies With No Sequels
17. The Guest
The Guest is one of the most stupendously entertaining horror-action films of the 2010s, a deliriously violent and often blackly funny film about a house guest (Dan Stevens) who just so happens to be a murderous military test subject.
Between Wingard's taut direction, the killer soundtrack, and Dan Stevens' superb performance, there was clearly franchise potential here, especially as Stevens' Terminator-like antagonist, David, inexplicably emerges alive in the film's bonkers ending.
Though Wingard and writer Simon Barrett have enthusiastically pushed for a sequel ever since the original's release, it never came to pass, likely due to the fact that The Guest failed to even recoup its small $5 million budget at the box office.
As something of a consolation prize for fans, in 2022 a synth-infused soundtrack for The Guest 2 was released, though Wingard did later state that the project inspired him to take another crack at getting the movie made for real.
Wingard, Barrett, and Stevens are all onboard, but with the film frustratingly not being a commercial success, it seems unlikely to ever happen - especially well over a decade after the fact.
