David Cronenberg's Fly remake begins with journalist Veronica Quaife chatting to eccentric scientist Seth Brundle, who tries to impress her with his latest invention, a teleportation pod.

As their romance blossoms, Veronica is harassed by her creepy editor and former boyfriend, Stathis Borans. And when Brundle has a teleportation mishap that turns him into a fly monster, it's assumed Stathis will use this opportunity to win Veronica back, especially when she comes running back into his arms.

Instead, Stathis focuses entirely on protecting Veronica from harm. He may have acted like a secondary antagonist at first, but Stathis becomes crucial to taking Brundle down, putting himself in danger to stop him. Even after Brundle melts Stathis' hand and foot, he finds the strength to destroy the mad scientist's experiment, giving Veronica the chance to kill Brundle.

It's worth mentioning that John Getz plays Stathis as such a sleazeball that his very presence should make anybody's skin crawl. For this reason, it's weird to see him become noble at the halfway point in order to take down the person that viewers originally thought was the hero.
