20 Horror Movie Scenes That Make Absolutely No Sense

3. Jaws: The Revenge - The Super Shark

Final Destination 3 Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Universal Pictures

Plot: Ellen Brody (Lorraine Gary) finds that she and her family are being stalked by a vengeful shark.

Jaws: The Revenge is deservedly hailed as one of the worst horror movies of all time, and one of the many things that makes it so awful is just how many gaping holes there are in its story. The other three films all took place in a believable-enough world; this one goes into absurd, borderline sci-fi territory and makes Deep Blue Sea look realistic by comparison.

The premise of the movie is that this shark is seeking revenge on the Brody family because of the deaths of several other sharks at their hands, which is hilariously absurd. Lest we forget, a minor character in Jaws 2 says out loud, "Sharks don't take things personally."

Furthermore, this shark seems to have superpowers. It knows when the Brodys go to the Bahamas and swims nearly 2,000 miles in less than three days to follow them there, it follows Michael Brody (Lance Guest) through an underwater shipwreck, eats a plane, has some sort of psychic connection with Ellen Brody (one the film never actually addresses), and most infamously of all, during the climax it floats on its bottom fin and roars like a lion. Sharks don't have vocal chords!

If this had been more of a self-aware parody, then these things would've been hilarious, but this was an overly dour film that took itself completely seriously, so it'll most likely have everyone face-palming.
