20 Horror Movie Scenes That Make Absolutely No Sense
4. Us - The Clones
Plot: The Wilson family try to survive a nationwide disaster, as an army of duplicates emerge and attack their surface counterparts.
Us is a well-made horror film, and yet, in contrast to Jordan Peele's ingenious masterpiece of a debut, Get Out, it's pretty unintelligent in some ways. The attack of the doubles was a fascinating metaphorical way to explore the return of the repressed, the concept of the Other, and issues such as America's class divide, so Peele had some great ideas. The trouble is, he came up with an overly literal explanation for the event when a supernatural one would've probably worked better.
The doubles are revealed to be clones that were created by the government in a long-since-abandoned cloning project. Somehow, every person in the US has a clone. Somehow, these clones have survived in a network of underground tunnels with no food aside from a bunch of rabbits. And somehow, leader Red (Lupita Nyong'o) was able to arrange a big revolution even though there don't seem to be any methods of long-range communication down there.
It's also revealed that Red, who appears to be a clone of Adelaide (also Nyong'o) is actually the original Adelaide. The real Adelaide wandered down into the tunnels and her clone incapacitated her before heading to the surface and taking her place. Again, this is a cool idea, but the logic isn't quite there. It's not explained why Adelaide didn't just return to the surface after freeing herself.
