16. Frankenstein (1931) - "It's Alive!"
The creation of Frankenstein's Monster (Boris Karloff) in 1931's Frankenstein is arguably one of the most iconic horror movie moments of them all. Even if you haven't seen the actual film, you've probably seen this clip and you've likely seen it parodied somewhere - it's been referenced in all sorts of things, ranging from The Simpsons to Shrek 2.
The repeated exclamations of "It's alive!" also rank among cinema's most recognizable lines, and this scene really has taken on a life of its own over the years. It's overwhelmingly the main part of Frankenstein (1931) that people remember, partly because it's been referenced so often elsewhere and partly because it's absolutely one of the strongest bits in the movie.
The rest of it, though still jolly good and very much worth seeing, is less memorable by comparison, especially as the overall picture is pretty dated in a lot of ways and lacks the complex themes that made Mary Shelley's original novel a classic. Honestly, there's a strong argument to be made that Guillermo del Toro's recent adaptation of the novel is a superior film.
