Though an Indonesian remake of Andrzej Żuławski's masterful 1981 psychological horror film Possession already exists, in the summer of 2024 it was announced that Hollywood was also mounting its own take.

Smile filmmaker Parker Finn was soon enough announced to be writing and directing, with Robert Pattinson producing, and Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner were later said to be circling the central roles previously played so unforgettably by Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill.

We didn't hear much substantial on the remake for the next 18 months or so, enough that it seemed like there might've been a case of cold feet somewhere along the line. But back in April, it was indeed confirmed that the Possession remake is happening with Finn, Qualley, and Turner.

While many might turn their noses up at such a bona fide genre classic getting remade at all, original star Adjani recently gave her blessing for Qualley to succeed her in the lead role.

At the very least, with this caliber of personnel attached, there's no way it's just another lazy, quick-and-dirty horror remake.
