18. Sleepaway Camp Remake

Here's a remake that surely wasn't on anyone's bingo card - the 1983 cult classic slasher Sleepaway Camp.

Though initially reviled as a lazy Friday the 13th knock-off, its esteem has grown over the years due to its campy qualities, and love it or hate it, it's undeniably best known for its shocker of a twist ending.

Needless to say, remaking a horror film with a legacy as complex and divisive as Sleepaway Camp's presents some massive challenges, and one might expect a younger, on-the-rise filmmaker to be brought in to deliver a fresh take on the story.

However, the remake is actually being written and directed by the original film's writer-director Robert Hiltzik, and stranger still, it's being produced by Kenan Thompson through his production company Artists for Artists (AFA).

Hiltzik turned in his script back in November and stated his desire to remain true to the original while introducing some new twists, though it's certainly easy to be skeptical about this one.
