20 Horror Sequels That Were Just Announced
1. The Black Demon: Atlantis
Given that it was panned by critics and grossed just a few million dollars at the global box office, few were expecting a second go-around for 2023's low-rent shark movie The Black Demon.
However, the film presumably managed to clean up on the home video market, as back in February a follow-up, The Black Demon: Atlantis, was formally confirmed to be in development.
Even so, it was tough to believe this one was actually going to happen until cameras began rolling, but that they did this past summer.
Julio Cesar Cedillo will be returning from the first film, alongside new cast members Jack Kesy and Kate Del Castillo, with the plot following a DEA agent (Kesy) who arrives at a maximum-security prison in the middle of the Pacific Ocean just as it's attacked by the "Black Demon" megalodon, alongside other oceanic monsters.
To the surprise of those few who enjoyed the original, it at least doesn't seem to be straying far from what "worked" the first time.
