With a reported budget of just $1 million, Clown in a Cornfield was an easy box office success, grossing $13.8 million globally, though considering the popularity of the horror novel it's based on and all the marketing costs a theatrical release entails, the studios involved might've been hoping for a bigger return.

And with no sequel announcement being made within a year of the film's bow, it seemed like Clown in a Cornfield would be a mere one-off curio.

That was, until this past August, when it was confirmed that an adaptation of Adam Cesare's sequel novel, Clown in a Cornfield 2: Frendo Lives, is now in development.

It's unknown whether director Eli Craig will return to helm, but if it faithfully adapts Cesare's novel, then Katie Douglas should return in the lead role of Quinn, who finds herself terrorised by another serial killer in a clown costume while trying to move on with her life.
