11. The Supernatural Twist - Silent Night, Deadly Night

Silent Night, Deadly Night is of course a remake of the 1984 yuletide slasher of the same name, though the marketing has largely shied away from the remake's big supernatural spin on the original premise.

In the '84 film, Billy Chapman (Robert Brian Wilson) becomes a deranged serial killer due to a traumatic childhood incident in which his parents are killed by a psychopath in a Santa Claus outfit. But the new remake reimagines this origin story by revealing that, after Billy's (Rohan Campbell) parents were slaughtered by the aforementioned maniac, Billy touched the killer and an electrical surge caused the killer's "essence" to somehow enter Billy's body.

Since then, the voice of the killer, Charlie (Mark Acheson), has been guiding Billy to kill "naughty" people every December in the lead up to Christmas.

That's quite a bit more ridiculous than the already absurd setup for the original film, but at least ensures that nobody's ever going to accuse this bats**t remake of taking itself too seriously.
