20 Perfect Scenes In Otherwise Terrible Horror Movies

10. Jason X - The Crystal Lake Simulation

Jason X
New Line

Jason X is abominable. Turning Jason Voorhees into a cyborg and having him rampage on a spaceship was an idea that could've worked, if only they'd got the tone right. Had this been more of a self-aware horror comedy, then this could've been solid enough, but the final film played its head-banging stupidity far too straight... except for this part, which absolutely slayed.

Here, the ship's crew conjure up a simulation of Camp Crystal Lake, Jason's old haunt, in order to distract him, and this simulation includes two female holograms who draw Jason's ire by talking cheerfully about how much they love drugs, alcohol, and, above all else, premarital sex. Genuinely, this was very, very funny indeed, and the way it affectionately sent up the Friday the 13th IP was just lovely.

This scene is so entertaining that, much like the aforementioned Countdown, it suggests that Jason X should've been a horror-comedy. In a franchise as undeniably repetitive as Friday the 13th, a Scream-esque meta picture would've been a smart way to go.
