15. Dishonest Marketing - We Bury the Dead
The new Daisy Ridley-starring horror-thriller We Bury the Dead was largely well-received by critics though met a decidedly more hostile reaction from general audiences, and the blame can be laid almost entirely at how it was marketed.
The trailers painted the film as a far more familiar and action-packed zombie movie, focusing on glimpses of gory action, when in fact these moments are few and far between in the end product.
We Bury the Dead is far more of a quiet, introspective horror-drama about grief than the Walking Dead-esque survival film folks were understandably led to expect.
While it's easy to see why the trailers misled viewers in the pursuit of box office bucks, it's ultimately going to harm the film's long-term perception as many watch the trailers and expect something quite different.
And with the film's mere $4 million box office haul, it's not like this slippery tactic paid off much.
