10. Thread: An Insidious Tale

There's no denying the enduring popularity of the Insidious franchise, given that the recent fifth film, Insidious: The Red Door, was by far the series' most commercially successful entry, terrible reviews be-damned.

There's evidently plenty of hunger for Insidious, then, and in addition to a sixth mainline film due to release later this year, Blumhouse is working on a spin-off tentatively called Thread: An Insidious Tale.

Thread will focus on an entirely new set of characters, with Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani playing a couple who use a spell to travel back in time and prevent the death of their young daughter. We can assume, though, that this act has disastrous consequences.

If the movie has only a tangential-at-best relation to the main Insidious franchise, at that point it's just a shameless branding exercise, and one that's destined to disappoint many hoping for a more overt tie-in to the central mythos. Needless to say, if this is just the beginning of Blumhouse's attempts to expand and diversify Insidious, there's a good chance franchise fatigue finally kicks in.
