20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Could Save Franchises

3. The Howling Remake

Joe Dante's 1981 werewolf movie The Howling was a massive commercial success while also faring well with critics, and spawned a franchise of eight films, none of which managed to recapture even a sliver of the original's glory.

Since 1988's Howling IV: The Original Nightmare, the series has been trapped in the direct-to-video ghetto, though over the past decade, several attempts have been made to produce a remake.

In 2020, It director Andy Muschietti was announced to helm, though word went quiet enough in the years since that many assumed it had been quietly shelved. But last year, it was reported that this new take on The Howling would be penned by Guy Busick, best known for working on scripts for both Ready or Not films, the last three Scream sequels, Abigail, and Final Destination Bloodlines.

This is all to say that Busick is clearly a solid horror hand, and in the very least, the odds are looking good that he'll deliver the second-best entry into the franchise.

The world just doesn't have enough big-budget werewolf movies, so more are most certainly welcome.
