20 Worst Endings In Recent Horror Movies
8. 28 Years Later
Few recent horror movies have ended in a fashion as divisive as 28 Years Later - a thoroughly entertaining sequel which wraps up with such a mind-bogglingly discordant final scene that it derailed the entire endeavour for many.
After young Spike (Alfie Williams) mourns his late mother Isla (Jodie Comer), he safely delivers the uninfected baby he's been carrying off at the village before venturing out again, leaving a message for his father Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) that he'll return when he's ready.
28 days later, Spike is assailed by a pack of the infected, only to be rescued by Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell) and his gang of blonde-haired, tracksuit-clad soldiers, each of them clearly styled after infamous UK TV entertainer Jimmy Savile.
But this sequence crucially and bafflingly breaks with the established tone of the movie, the Savile gang flipping around and slicing up the infected with swords set to a heavy metal cover of the Teletubbies' theme.
As bold as it was, for many it was simply too silly and tonally divorced from everything up to that point - a navel-gazing exercise in trolling the audience, and one that left many utterly bewildered, in a bad way, when the end credits rolled.
At least there's the possibility that the upcoming 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple might make it all seem a little less daft.
