20 Worst Endings In Recent Horror Movies
17. Wolf Man
Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man is easily one of the most disappointing horrors of the entire year considering the immense talent both in front of and behind the camera.
And this was compounded by a shockingly limp ending which simply failed to muster the emotion it was clearly aiming for.
In the finale, the doomed, diseased Blake (Christopher Abbott) stalks his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) around their barn, in a sequence so dimly lit that it's difficult to tell what the hell's going on.
The bestial Blake eventually corners his family, prompting Charlotte to shoot him, before mother and daughter sit with Blake as he finally dies.
Clearly Whannell was trying to evoke the same tragic vibe as in the ending of David Cronenberg's The Fly, yet despite solid work from Abbott and Garner here, neither the character work nor the action resulted in a particularly gratifying payoff.
Despite Whannell's recent success rebooting The Invisible Man, his take on the Wolf Man was shockingly by-the-numbers, ensuring it barely made a dent with audiences.
