20 Worst Endings In Recent Horror Movies

18. Him

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle 2025
Universal

Him is one of the most frustrating horror films of the year - a visually stunning acid trip of a movie that just didn't come together when it mattered most.

In the third act, young football prodigy Cam (Tyriq Withers) learns that his mentor Isaiah (Marlon Wayans) is part of a dynasty of players chosen to become the Greatest of All Time, granted enhanced physical abilities through a blood ritual passed down over the years.

Isaiah initiates a fight with Cam to crown the new GOAT, after which Cam beats him to death with a helmet and confronts Isaiah's accomplices on a football field.

Here it's revealed that Cam's late father was part of the conspiracy to make him the next GOAT, at which point Cam refuses to sign the team's diabolic contract, instead embarking on a brutal rampage where he kills the team's owners and heads off to parts unknown.

After a genuinely engaging first two acts, Him takes a hard-left into pure farce territory in its finale, and while some might celebrate the camp, it genuinely felt like the film was headed in a more thoughtful and impactful direction than this.

It's a classic example of a screenwriter clearly struggling to come up with a good way to end their story, leaving us with pure shlock instead.
