1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Iron Maiden Album

5. Montségur - Dance Of Death

Following on with the momentum brought to the band by the return of Dickinson and Smith, Iron Maiden produced yet another stellar outing in 'Dance of Death'. Boasting several tracks that would go on to become epics, and one that is nothing short of an Iron Maiden classic, the album also featured one of the heaviest tracks the band ever put out.

For years 'Be Quick of Be Dead' from 'Fear of the Dark' was accepted as the band's heaviest song, but in 2003 'Montségur' was released to arguably take that title.

No slow, methodic build-up, no half measures, just pure, incredibly bass-heavy metal from the get-go, and with some wailing dualling guitars thrown in that scream classic Maiden at the same time.

Iron Maiden have written about war all throughout their history, but here, Dickinson offers a different view than normal. While many are from the perspective of someone living through the horrors of the battle, 'Montségur' is from the point of view of Dickinson himself looking back on what happened, and seeing the same things going on today. It's a surprisingly poignant take juxtaposed to the thrashing metal unmatched elsewhere in Maiden history.
