10 2010s Musicians Destined To Be One-Hit Wonders

1. Weezer (Of The Modern Day)

Sure this band existed in the mainstream in the 2010s, but the reemergence in their sole hit of the decade was a different band.

The fact Weezer had to cover a meme song to score a Billboard Hot 100 hit in the 2010s is embarrassing. Africa is exactly what it said on the tin, a vanilla Weezer-sounding cover worthy of the middle-ground of the US Charts at no. 51.

The last time Weezer were scoring hits in the 2000s were a band of thirty-somethings riding a wave of relevant radio-ready rock. In 2018, there was no right for these Dads pushing 50 to have a hit single. Africa's success was all a bit surreal.

A cleverly organised marketing campaign full of trolling in response to the meme helped generate buzz, but this couldn’t be maintained into further hits following the release of the Teal and Black albums in 2019.

The first single from their 2020 album Van Weezer has failed to tickle the Hot 100 as well, so their biggest hit since Perfect Situation in 2005 was likely a lucky break bolstered by the power of the Internet.

Can this Dad version of Weezer score a second hit? Or will Africa be Weezer's last hit ever?
