10 '80s Songs You Totally Forgot Were Great

9. Huey Lewis And The News: The Power Of Love (1985)

The '80s was defined by captivating movie franchises. Star Wars got it's second two instalments, and Indiana Jones graced the big screen, rescuing lost artefacts and thwarting Nazis. But there was one franchise, in particular, that become iconic of the era: Back To The Future. As far as iconic movie characters go, you don't get much better than Marty McFly and Doc Brown, and when it comes to movie soundtracks, Huey Lewis's The Power Of Love, is unbeatable.

It's rare that a song written for a movie is ever as good as this. Huey was approached by Steven Spielberg and co, in hopes that he would write a score for the film. Huey was reluctant at first, not wanting to be confined by the movies narrative or themes. But, Spielberg was so eager to have him involved, that he gave him creative free rein.

Huey ended up submitting a track seemingly at random, and the studio went for it. The track has absolutely nothing to do with the plot, but it became indicative of the movies lighthearted, feel-good tone.
