10 Albums By Famous Musicians That Were Scrapped Before Release

10. Green Day €“ Cigarettes And Valentines

Ever wonder what career path Green Day might have had had they never released American Idiot? Cigarettes And Valentines was originally the name of the band's follow-up to 2000's Warning. Though the band were heading in a much more commercial direction, 2004's American Idiot is undoubtedly what pushed the band over the edge into mainstream superstardom. But if Cigarettes And Valentines had released, things might have been very different. In 2003 the album was practically finished when the master recordings of twenty tracks were stolen from the studio. Disheartened, the band decided not to re-record any of the songs, but to start again totally from scratch, leading to the creation of American Idiot. As for the sound of Cigarettes And Valentines, Billie Joe Armstrong described the material was €œquick-tempoed punk€, much more in line with the likes of Kerplunk and Insomniac. It seems that before going completely commercial, the band had actually very much intended to return to their roots. What might have happened if the record had been released? It's hard to say, but we'd probably be listening to a very different Green Day...
