10 Albums Saved By Ridiculously Last Minute Changes

8. Motley Crue Inclusion Of "Home Sweet Home" - Theatre Of Pain

By the mid-80's, Motley Crue had started to see great success and were getting into all sorts of nefarious behavior. From being strung out at parties to Vince Neil's DUI manslaughter charges, the band were living the rock star lifestyle to the very fullest. Thankfully, the band had a few aces in the hole for their next effort.

Compared to the band's previous output, Theatre of Pain is looked at as a bit of a sidenote. Instead of the demonic troublemakers from LA, the sound of this record was a bit too glam for people to latch onto. Even the band have expressed distaste for some of the tracks, with Neil himself stating he couldn't remember more than 3 tracks from the album.

Luckily, inspiration came just as the band was heading out the door. While packing up to go to the Whisky, Tommy Lee sauntered over to the piano and started to flesh out an idea that became the power ballad "Home Sweet Home." The ballad would be the biggest hit the band had up to that point, with its MTV video setting a benchmark in airtime plays. Once Neil recommended an even more uptempo cover of "Smokin in the Boys Room," the album went from a forgotten mess to a salvageable piece of 80's pop-rock.
