10 Albums That End On A Cliffhanger
5. Revolver - The Beatles
Most artists like to treat the album almost like a painter treats an open canvas. As opposed to the normal things you get into on the road, the studio allows you to flex your muscles in a bold and creative way, leaving audiences wondering where you will be going in the future. Or if you're the Beatles, just pull out all of the stops for one of the most scatterbrained songs in the entire rock canon.
Though most fans of the Fabs would probably save something like A Day in the Life off of Sgt. Pepper's for this outing, having Tomorrow Never Knows ending Revolver is one of the most perplexing final notes in rock music. Being one of their first true ventures into psychedelia, this is basically the experience of LSD transferred into a song, complete with exotic Indian instrumentation and John Lennon reading from a sacred text as the backing track drones on one continuous chord.
Compared to the other catchy tunes to come from the mind of Lennon and McCartney, this is one of the few that just need to be heard to be believed, closing Revolver out and demanding to be played again on repeat. We were a long way from the mop tops...but the next few years were definitely going to be interesting if this was any preparation.
