An actor, singer, and songwriter, Kate Nash proved herself to be far more than the Lily Allen imitator many critics wrote her off as early in her career.

Yes, the two artists had a comparable aesthetic, pairing foul mouthed wit with a chirpy, poppy sound. But Allen's output tended to be more classic pop in its production, whereas Nash's critically well-liked first two albums had a more stripped back, acoustic feel to them.

The artist won over a legion of fans with her sharp lyrics and simple arrangements, with both albums providing memorably catchy indie singles. Then came 2013's Girl Talk, an album which it's fair to say turned out nothing like fans and critics expected...

For better or worse.

The singer’s third album saw her leave behind indie pop acoustics in favour of a loud, rockier sound. A messy lo-fi album, Girl Talk was influenced heavily by riot grrl music and split Nash's fans between those who felt this new music condensed and distilled her attitude, and those who found it a total tonal departure.
