10 Albums That Were Hated Before They Even Came Out

5. Rock In a Hard Place - Aerosmith

The journey of Aerosmith in the '70s just felt like a train moving way too fast all the way down a track. The Bad Boys From Boston could throw down with the best of them, but their massive drug intake was only matched by their animosity towards each other, which reached a peak when Joe Perry left the band after his wife started to get disrespected on the road. That should have been the end of the band, but Steven Tyler convinced himself that the band could keep going on Rock In a Hard Place.

While they finished off their album Night in the Ruts with backup guitarist Jimmy Crespo, this album just feels like a shell of what Aerosmith was supposed to be, with Steven spending ages in the studio not being able to write anything and getting more messed up as the days went on. The sessions ended up taking so long that even Brad Whitford had had enough, deciding to leave the band to form his own solo project rather than put up with Steven's antics.

Distance makes the heart grow fonder though, and Joe eventually rediscovered his love for the band after his new girlfriend convinced him to give it a shot again, hooking up with the Boys and getting the band back together for Done With Mirrors. The magic may have returned, but for a good while, Steven seemed like a jilted man, spiraling after losing the musical love of his life.
