10 Albums That Were Hated Before They Even Came Out
4. Raditude - Weezer
Half the reason why we love Weezer is for just how dorky they can come off sometimes. Although it's easy to talk about the guitar chops on a song like Buddy Holly or Say It Ain't So, a song like In The Garage was always what the band was about, being proud of writing your stupid songs and being able to rock out with your friends just for the hell of it. That wasn't selling in the late '00s though, and Rivers Cuomo convinced himself that the way forward was to go the pop route on Raditude.
Cute dog aside, this album might be one of the worst rock albums that the decade had ever spat out, as Weezer try their hand working with outside songwriters and coming through with songs that a band like Weezer has no right to be playing, from the slightly creepy sounds of I'm Your Daddy to the blasphemous ode to the club life on Can't Stop Partying.
Aside from the questionable experimental songs though, there are more than a few times where the band seem to just forget how to be themselves, like Trippin Down the Freeway sounding like a parody of what Weezer should sound like and In the Mall having lyrics that are probably meant to be funny but come off as slightly cringy instead. The follow up Hurley may have been an apology record from the band, but when you've subjected us to something like Let It All Hang Out, we're not going to forget it overnight.
