10 Albums That You Need To Listen To More Than Once
2. The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
It takes a certain something to give a casual fan of rock music the incentive to jump into the prog rock pool. If all you listen to is stuff from the likes of AC/DC or the Beatles, it's asking a bit much to make the jump to something like Yes or King Crimson on a whim. Though Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is certainly the most approachable prog rock experience, that's not to say it's for the impatient either.
After all, having a 10 track album with no less than 3 instrumentals on it is already a bit of a warning sign for the hook laden pop crowd. Though things start to settle into a groove on songs like Money and Time, the sheer length of these tracks might also seem like a bit much to get through, especially considering a track like Us and Them going on for nearly 8 minutes before finally settling down.
Much like any prog rock album though, this is the kind of record that merits being taken in as a whole rather than picking and choosing songs. Though there's a lot of brilliance on display, it works the best when going along for the ride rather than just looking in from afar. It might try your patience on the first few listens, but this really is an album that you need to devote some time to before letting everything sink in.
