10 Albums We Waited An Eternity To Get
7. 13 - Black Sabbath
Wait: 13 Years
For any seasoned metalhead, it was a bit of a letdown to see Black Sabbath stumble aimlessly into the '00s. After years of pioneering the metal sound, the band's lackluster 1998 release Forbidden contained some of the most listless tracks to come from Tony Iommi's amplifier. However, things seemed to be looking up in 2001 when it was announced that the Prince of Darkness was set to return to the stage.
With Ozzy Osbourne not being in the band since the late '70s, fans were overjoyed when they started talking about making a new album with Rick Rubin at the helm. Things were definitely looking up, but tension between the band members started to flare up once again. After a spat with drummer Bill Ward, the band and Ozzy ended up going their separate ways, with Ozzy going back to his solo career.
Instead of fawning over business issues, the band sans Ward regrouped in 2013 and finally produced their long-awaited album 13. Though it had taken the titular amount of years for this one album to be released, the results were a lot better than expected, with Iommi still having his chops intact and Rage Against the Machine's Brad Wilk doing a fantastic job at filling Ward's shoes. Even if the band was not fully reunited, they were not ready to close the door on their heavy roots just yet.
