10 Amazing Albums That Will Make You Love Pop Punk Music
4. The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
Most of the hangups that come with pop punk was that it was meant to be a genre for teenagers. Even though there might have been a lot of emotion in between those riffs, it wasn't really going to matter once you got past the age of 23, right? The old guard can take the youth for granted though. Teenagers can scare the living sh*t out of you, and at the worst of times, they can actually make you think like on The Black Parade.
After shaking off the emo tags from Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, Gerard Way was looking to step up to the big leagues on this record, drafting a full fledged concept album about a man dying of cancer and having only a few weeks left to live. While that concept alone is dark as hell, listening to the actual album is a complete throwback to the concept albums of old, with a Queen level of bombast on songs like Welcome to the Black Parade.
Going track by track, this is practically a love letter to every single genre of rock you can think of, from the vaudeville leanings of a song like Mama to the Aerosmith style swagger of a song like I Don't Love You. Even with the emo tags, this is far from a depressing album. It has some dark subject matter to be sure, but never has an album about death made you feel this alive.
