10 Amazing Cover Songs You Need To Hear
4. Dweezil And Ahmet Zappa. …Baby One More Time
Frank Zappa is criminally underappreciated. When you look at the man's work, which is quite difficult as he did A LOT, you start to realise he created more than just satirical funny songs like Jesus Thinks You're A Jerk or Valley Girl, but also incredibly complex arrangements like Peaches En Regalia and 13 (a track famous for its insane 13/4 time signature).
His kids seem to have picked up a lot about music from their father, which is hard not to do when your dad keeps a recording studio in the basement and you get freebie guitar lessons from maestro Steve Vai, as Dweezil did – but where Frank went his own sweet, mad way, the Zappa offspring tend more towards the 'putting their own spin on existing material' end of things. This is obvious to anyone who owns the soundtrack for the film Ready To Rumble (Ahmet makes a cameo in the film as the store clerk by the way) with the brothers' cover of Britney Spear's … Baby One More Time. The track is sinister as all hell, moulding the bubblegum pseudo-sexual pop hit into a track that would seem more at home on the 50 Shades Of Grey Soundtrack.
