10 Amazing Hard Rock Music Videos
2. Rooster - Alice In Chains
A lot of grunge songs had a lot to do with introspection. No matter which band you came across, 99% of the time you would get singers who emphasized all the pain that they felt inside. Alice in Chains had no shortage of those dour themes, but things got a lot more real when they put a face to that pain.
In the middle of the band's drug opus Dirt, "Rooster" is a song commemorating Jerry Cantrell's father and his time spent in Vietnam. Opening more like a documentary than a piece of music, the start of the video shows Cantrell Sr. being interviewed about his time in the service before the song slowly fades in. As we open up to brooding shots of the band, the video takes a different turn as we see the re-enactment of young soldiers at war.
Much like the "Saving Private Ryan"s of the world, this song holds nothing back, as we see soldiers getting their limbs blown off as the song gives way to crushing power chords. Chaos may be unfolding all around him, but as the song trudges along, the titular Rooster stands determined, making his way through the jungle and coming out on the other side. The world of this song might sound like it's going to Hell, but you know that the Rooster ain't gonna die.
