10 Amazing Musicians We Lost In The 2010s

1. David Bowie (1947-2016)

The Starman. The Thin White Duke. Major Tom. Whatever you would like to call him, David Bowie has made a rich legacy out of his musical career.

From his start in the 1960's to his final album Blackstar in 2016, Bowie remained one step ahead of almost every artist that was out at the time. His fantastic gift for songwriting helped him fit neatly into many genres like glam rock, dance rock, and even avant garde and electronic music in the 1990's. This led to Bowie adopting characters for different periods of his musical career, such as Ziggy Stardust and the aforementioned Thin White Duke.

But the most important aspect of Bowie's musical career is his fearlessness. Bowie loved to experiment and didn't seem to worry about his commercial viability. That's something that every artist needs to learn: sometimes you have to be brave with your musical choices and take risks even if they seem daunting. Up until the end, Bowie's final album Blackstar was totally based around the concept of his imminent death, but he embraced it head on without any inkling of fear or unease. And that's what we can all take from Bowie's work. Be yourself. Don't be afraid. You're not alone.
