10 Amazing Rock Albums That You Didn't Know Were About Drugs

6. Master of Reality - Black Sabbath

It should come as no surprise that recreational drug use and rock and roll tend to go hand in hand a lot of the time. I mean, no one's looking at a poster of Woodstock and assuming that everyone there is 100% sober, are they? Nowadays, we even have the stoner brand of rock with people like Kyuss and Monster Magnet, and we have the album Master of Reality to thank for that.

Years before the days of stoner rock, Black Sabbath created their own dank experience on their third outing. After shedding away some of the traditional blues of their first records, this is where things started to get a lot more heavy, with Tony Iommi tuning his guitar down for the first time to get a grittier tone. Compared to the kind of stuff that we were listening to like Paranoid, a song like Into the Void or Children of the Grave make it feel like the end of the world is coming to light through your speakers.

And if we're talking about the druggy side of things, we can't forget the opener Sweet Leaf, which has become a pothead anthem and opens with Iommi busting a lung after taking a hit from a bong. Just like they never set out to become the first metal band, Master of Reality managed to create a new genre underneath Sabbath's feet without even realizing it.
