10 Amazing Rock Albums We Never Got To Hear
2. Get Back - The Beatles
The future of the Beatles was pretty much dead in the water after coming off of the White Album. With every single member at each other's throats and wanting to go in different directions, Paul McCartney had an idea of bringing the band back to their roots. Instead, Let It Be eventually was the nail in the coffin for one of the greatest bands in the world.
Or was it? While Let It Be is known as the swan song of the Fab Four, it was actually shelved for a while as the group worked on Abbey Road instead. As a whole, Let It Be is more or less table scraps from what was originally the Get Back project, taken from the bluesy song of the same time. From the word go, this sounded like it would have been great, with McCartney's vision yielding more organic songs like Don't Let Me Down and I Me Mine.
However, most of the tension reached a boiling point, with producer Phil Spector tasked with stringing together something that at least sounded finished. Though most people hold this album close to their hearts, McCartney has never been completely satisfied with it, claiming that it wasn't nearly close to capturing the potential he had in his head. While Abbey Road may be considered one of the crowning achievements of the Beatles' career, if the Get Back project had panned out, we may have been able to get even more albums from the lads from Liverpool.
