10 Amazing Rock Albums With Terrible Production
6. All Beatles Albums - Beatles
There's a good contingency of classic rock die hards that are seething with anger at the thought of a Beatles album being poorly produced. George Martin was known as the fifth Beatle for a reason, and the musicality that he brought to the band is what made their songs the defining sounds of rock and roll for decades. When it came time to remix them for the modern era though, you will be treated to some of the most confusing production you have ever heard.
Since most of the band's records were made when recording was transitioning from mono to stereo, a lot of the tracks were incredibly separated when it came time to remix them in 2009. For every single one of their albums, you'll get two separate halves of the production spread out across both channels, with some of the classic parts of the songs completely missing on one side.
The patch job that was done here can't be fully experienced unless you have headphones though, making a lot of classic tracks straight up disorienting. Imagine hearing the piercing sound of John Lennon's guitar on Revolution, and then weep when you realize that it's only in the right channel while the left side is in complete silence. Considering the remasters that are happening for the Beatles' classic work these days, it's nice to see someone actually doing justice to the band who blazed the trail for modern pop music.
