10 Amazing Rock Bands That Almost Had The Wrong Members
5. Krist Novoselic - Foo Fighters
For a short few months, it didn't look like Dave Grohl was going to play any new music after Nirvana had ended. No one would really blame him either, having lost one of his best friends to suicide and having to come to terms with whether he even wanted to continue on. When Grohl decided to pick up where he left off, he did have a few casting choices to lay down first.
While he played the entire Foo Fighters record by himself for the most part, Dave was looking for a full band and drafted in Pat Smear from the Germs after serving as Nirvana's backup guitarist on tour. Before seeing the performance of Sunny Day Real Estate and getting Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith though, Dave was seriously considering bringing in his old bandmate Krist Novoselic to play bass in the band.
It may have looked like a logical next step at the time, but after a few days contemplating everything, both Dave and Krist figured that it wasn't a good idea, being too close to the chemistry that they originally had when they were in Nirvana. With Krist eventually going into politics, Dave soldiered on with the Foos, featuring a bit of a revolving lineup before finding himself on firmer ground around the turn of the '00s. This version of the band could have been cool, but could you imagine the amount of Nirvana comparisons that he would have had to deal with at the time?
