10 Amazing Rock Bands That Went Pop
1. Queen
Whenever you bring up a band going pop, usually you get a massive subsect of fans claiming that their favorite band "sold out." No matter how much the melodies may still hold up, you're never going to escape the purist mindset who stands by the more "legit" version of the band they got to know and love when they first started. In this case though, Queen didn't really go pop...their music just became too big for just one genre.
Operating with their operatic style of music on albums like A Day at the Races and A Night at the Opera, the turn of the decade showed the band riding the tide of pop music time and time again with albums like Jazz and The Game. Aside from the massive riffs populating their early work, these rock royals could do a lot of different things, from the rockabilly sounds of Crazy Little Thing Called Love to the all-out disco funk of Another One Bites the Dust.
Granted, it hasn't all been heavy hitters (after all, Hot Space exists), but the initial spark of creativity hasn't dulled across any of the band's albums. From day one, Freddie Mercury always aimed for music that would last, and even when going down different roads, Queen created songs that may be able to outlive us all.
