10 Amazing Rock Songs That Artists Hated Recording

8. Release - Pearl Jam

When Pearl Jam first started to get the ball rolling, every song seemed to be coming from a completely pure place. After the Seattle OGs of the band had healed their wounds from Mother Love Bone by forming Temple of the Dog, here was an outfit where they could be themselves and not have to worry about their past anymore. Towards the end of the record though, Eddie Vedder may have left a little too much of himself in the song Release.

Though there are many songs on Ten that have a bit of truth about Eddie's life in them like Black and the first half of Alive, Release is where you see him really start to open up, as he tries to have the conversation with the dad he never got to know as a child. From the sounds of this song, you can hear Eddie really let himself loose and emotionally break down, which wasn't that uncommon during rehearsals.

Once the band decided they wanted to use the song in their repertoire, Eddie would often get too absorbed into the song, oftentimes running away behind a corner when the song ended. If anything, that speaks to the power of the song though. You may still be the same person, but you left a piece of your soul in between those notes.
