10 Amazing Rock Songs That Artists Hated Recording
7. This Is How I Disappear - My Chemical Romance
No member of My Chemical Romance was expecting the making of the Black Parade to be a walk in the park. Since they were set up in a literal haunted house when recording the album that had a centerpiece revolving around death, it's not exactly like Disneyland whenever you go in to track a song. While some members went through a lot of sleepless nights to get the record done, the making of This Is How I Disappear is pure unbridled frustration.
When the band were laying things down in the studio, Bob Bryar was never able to get the drums to sound exactly how he wanted, always feeling like it lacked the same punch and energy that they had when they played in the room. After what surely seemed like the millionth time they were tracking the song, Bob decided that he needed some time to cool off and went into the parking lot and began to drive donuts around the empty lot.
By the time the band got back into the studio, Bob was practically seething with anger and ready to play the song. Once the band kicked in again, the tone of the song practically switched on a dime, giving us the intense sound that you hear on the final mix. That's the beauty of tracking albums like this. Bands might push it a little too far, but you sometimes get magic when you push it juuust enough over the edge.
