10 Amazing Rock Songs That Got Banned

8. My Generation - The Who

Considering the state of the world that we're in now, the '60s seemed to have a stick up their ass about every little thing that happened in rock and roll. This was the kind of business that had some reservations about songs like The Twist, so there's a good chance that most songs these days would give them a heart attack if they heard them back then. The Who were never ones for professionalism, but some radio stations had a few questions about how Roger Daltrey was singing.

Even though the original version of My Generation started off as a folk song, the stop start nature of Roger's delivery in the verses offended a few people, who thought that Roger was making fun of those with speech impediments. If they had known what Roger was really trying to articulate though, chances are they would never have released the single in the first place, originally going for something along the lines of a Mod being out of his mind on speed.

Though the song did eventually reach the public, the Who were still in for an uphill battle from the straights, with their appearance on the Smothers Brothers ending with Keith Moon blowing up his drums and never even being invited on The Ed Sullivan Show because of how dangerous they were. Rock and roll had some growing up to do, but this was the beginnings of what punk would look like.
