10 Amazing Rock Songs Written For Movies

1. Exit Music (For a Film) - Radiohead

It's absolutely staggering to think of all the time and effort that went into perfecting OK Computer by Radiohead. Rather than just go into the studio with a handful of good songs, these four English lads slogging it out in a mansion before attaining musical perfection seems to be ripped straight out of rock and roll folklore. Even though there was a clear focus on the connective-ness of the record, one of the album's emotional centerpieces was actually not meant for the record at all.

Recorded for the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's remake of Romeo and Juliet, Exit Music (for a Film) feels like Radiohead's best offering for the tragic story, down to the subject matter of teen romance and the grand musical scope. Instead of just your average good movie cut, this song might hold the title of the greatest thing Radiohead has ever done.

With a truly powerhouse performance by Thom Yorke, this simple acoustic ballad turns into a relentless tale of despair, almost like Jonny Greenwood's guitar and effects are trying to conjure up fiery Armageddon in the studio. Since this was meant to serve as the final credits music, it would have been a travesty if this were just relegated to the part of the film no one really needs to see. OK Computer is definitely Radiohead's magnum opus, and this one song almost single-handedly put them in the conversation of one of the greatest acts of the decade.

Happy listening...and be careful not to choke.
