10 Amazing Songs That Don't Have A Chorus

7. Lullaby - The Cure

By the time that Robert Smith had gotten around to making Disintegration, the Cure were a much different band than when they started. After spending the late '70s indulging in the sort of nervy post punk that a lot of their contemporaries were making, the past few albums like Head on the Door and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me leaned fully into the goth aesthetic, making songs that were a lot more tortured and absolutely dripping with emotion. There was an eerie streak in there as well, and Smith managed to turn the name of a beloved superhero into something terrifying.

While there is no real connection to Spider-Man in Lullaby, the sound of Robert describing this kind of nightmare scenario of a spider-human devouring you is enough to make a chill run down your spine. Since there's no main chorus to anchor everything together, you're just hanging on every word that he says, with the backing track giving the sensation of the webs slowly tightening around you.

It gets even more haunting when Robert seems to take on the role of the Spiderman in the song, asking us to try not to struggle as we are lulled right into his trap and await our doom. This creature could just as easily be a metaphor for something like anxiety or loneliness, but this is also the kind of song that will make you want to look over your shoulder to make sure nothing's watching you.
