10 Amazing Songs That Were Never Performed Live

5. Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles

There's always certain hangups that come with translating a song from the studio to the stage. No matter how much time and effort you put into things, there's pretty much no conceivable way of making a song exactly like the studio recording, which forces you to cut corners here and there. Then again, sometimes cutting the corners leads to the entire thing falling apart.

During the making of the album Revolver, John Lennon came up with a song that was an experiment in the avant garde, with most of the melody stemming from just one chord. Intrigued by what he heard, George Martin set to work on making Tomorrow Never Knows happen, as the rest of the Beatles brought everything from backwards guitar to tape loops to one of the most metronomic drum grooves that Ringo would ever play. After taking to the road though, it was understood that something like this would never meet the stage.

Even though many capable artists have tried their hand at making this song work in a live setting, George Martin wasn't lying when he said that this song was unrepeatable, with the backing track being impossible to replicate exactly the same every time they played. Considering the Beatles would stop touring altogether after this, it's safe to say that they officially became the studio creations that would define the rest of the decade.
