10 Amazing Songs That Were Never Performed Live
6. The Show Must Go On - Queen
Ever since the '70s, Queen were always known as a band that lived and died on their live performances. For as much as the studio inventions were absolutely beautiful from a sonic perspective, the real damage they did was onstage, as Freddie Mercury whipped the audience into shape at every turn. Even though the classic era of the band retired from the road in the late '80s due to Freddie's AIDS diagnosis, we lost the opportunity for one of the greatest show closers of all time.
Granted, we're probably lucky we even got The Show Must Go On at all, considering that Brian May didn't think that Freddie could sing it in his compromised condition. Given that he was expected to live only until the late '80s, the fact that he made it into the '90s was a miracle, so it would be best not to push it. Mercury seemed up for it though, pulling off the original song in one magical take.
Even though Adam Lambert has tried his hand at the tune plenty of times, there's nothing that will compare to Freddie's original vocal. This was a man at the closing chapter in his life, determined to give us one more feat of brilliance before the curtain closed on him. Now the curtain has fallen, and our beloved rock frontman has fallen silent for the final time.
