8. Beyoncé – Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)
This incredibly catchy tune was released in 2008 as a double A-side single, alongside another smash hit, If I Were A Boy. With the sheer number of hits Beyoncé has had in her career, it would make sense to assume, at least from a mathematical perspective, that some of them had to be banged out in a hurry.
But even with that in mind, it’s hard to comprehend that Single Ladies was written in a mere 20 minutes. The massive beat, the lyrics, the sing-it-in-the-shower chorus, everything was done before you could finish your latte. And the best thing about is that it didn’t happen as a lucky accident, instead, it was created out of pure talent and confidence.
Producer Terius “The-Dream” Nash, who co-wrote the track, recalls the recording session by saying: “When Bey came in, she had that smirk that I see when I know a record is happening.”
And boy, was he right. Single Ladies rocketed up the charts and earned Beyoncé three Grammy awards and three MTV Video Music Awards, among other recognitions.
