10 Amazing Things You Didn't Know About Gerard Way

3. He Told Twilight To F**k Off

There was a time not all that long ago when tons of bands were jumping on the Twilight bandwagon. It's hard to blame them, given the amount of money they were likely offered, but still. You can't put a price on integrity and all that.

Artists like Paramore, Thom Yorke and even Muse bowed to the power of those sparkly, wealthy vampires, recording songs specifically for the movies. When it came to My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way had a slightly different opinion. Speaking to NME, he said:
€œThere's a lot of people chasing that f**king money. 'Twilight'? A lot of people around us were like, 'please, for the love of God, do this f**king movie.' But we'd moved on.€
This animosity later became the premise of a song written by the band, released on their final album Danger Days and raising a stern middle finger to people cashing in on the craze. If the name of the song didn't make it clear enough (Vampire Money) then lyrics like 'Sparkle like Bowie in the morning sun' and 'When you wanna be a movie star (c'mon!) Play the game and take the band real far (c'mon!)' make it more than obvious what Way and the gang were thinking.
