This song is straight up stupid. We all know that. It's barely even a song, really. It's a whitewashed scat-fest that was the perfect amount of nonsense for a moment in time when the world was still reeling from the loss of Kurt Kobain and Tupac. We turned to this foot-tapping, head-bobbing, gibberish-spouting bit of silliness to get us through. And before saying the non-word "MMMbop" was met with an immediate "I WILL CUT YOUR FINGERS TO THE BONE AND END YOU FOREVER," it kinda did its job. There is not a song in this world that is catchier than "MMMbop." It's just a simple truth. I'm not saying that qualifies it as a great song, or even a tolerable song in a lot of cases. But it does make it impossible to get out of your head. You can't lobotomize this one away. Hanson is there to stay. Forever and ever. "MMMbop...they're not gone."
