10 Artists Who Grew Out Of Their Appeal

1. Marilyn Manson

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bacm20rFO4 A heartbroken guy splits up with his girlfriend then, to express his pain, lipsyncs along to a slow song whilst self-indulgently wrapping himself in drapes and pouting sulkily towards the camera. This video, which clocks in at over six minutes, takes a slightly more sinister twist when an image of a bloodstained girl in her underwear flashes into the drape-whining set for a split second. This later leads into some bizarre and really quite unacceptable torture porn in which Heartbroken Guy essentially beats the culprit of his pain to death. The question then became; was Heartbroken Guy just a silly, emotionally volatile 16-year-old film studies student who roped in some unfortunate friends to help him make this violent expression of despair? Don't be silly. Heartbroken Guy is Marilyn Manson, of course! And this was the video for his release 'Running To The Edge of the World,' a song composed about his split with actress Evan Rachel Wood. Rather like others on this list, 'shock rocker' Mr Manson grew out of his appeal a long time ago by simply refusing to change what made him so edgy - and sadly, this isolated incident from 2010 more or less sums up where he's been for quite some time. We're not shocked anymore - just a bit creeped out at this stage. Grow up, Marilyn. Not even conservative suburban parents are that afraid of you anymore. Which artists do you feel have lost their core appeal as time has ticked by? Let us know in the comments!
