10 Artists That Destroyed Their Own Album

9. Music From the Elder - KISS

The idea of a band like KISS even making a concept album feels like a joke when taken out of context. I mean, unless the core story is about a kid trying to hang out with the Demon for an hour, you don't really come to these guys for a headtrippy kind of experience. Then again, it wasn't a joke...the shock rock originators were being deadly serious.

Wanting to be given credit as a "real" band like their peers, KISS' first step up to the plate since their disco years was Music From the Elder, which was centered around a man's search for his own...mythmaking....I guess. The only reason why it's so unclear is that every single one of these songs are the most by the numbers storylines ever conceived, with our protagonist called "the Chosen One" going on a magical journey to find himself, all while never actually explaining what the end product actually is.

Though the record sounds good enough with Bob Ezrin's production and even has a handful of good tunes like Dark Light, this was responsible with killing the classic incarnation of KISS, with Ace Frehley jumping ship before the record was even ready to hit the shelf. Gene Simmons may in fact be good at playing up his Demon persona, but for the love of rock and roll, keep him away from writing fiction.
